A day at sea with Cap’n Mike and Sarah

August 26, 2008

Meg and I had an opportunity to join some friends from our small group this last Saturday and it was awesome!!  Just like our weekend at Whistler this was our ‘other’ weekend off this summer and we were blessed with a beautiful day out on the water in the San Juan Islands.  Our new friends the McEvoys hosted all of us on their boat and it was so nice of them to take us all out.  Enjoy some photos from the amazing day!

Emily chillin’ on the bow and you can see Cap’n Mike at the helm

Chris was in Heaven back on the water as he was in the Coast Guard.  He even did an inspection of the Jubilee’s engine.  Upon inspection?

Beautiful!

I couldn’t get over how cool Mt. Baker looked all day!

The Bow was definitely the best seat in the house:)

Meg got this great shot of the San Juans from Sucia Island.

HaHa, I had a captive couple so I couldn’t help an impromptu photo shoot.

How on Earth do you decide?

August 22, 2008

The weather held off and Meg & I had the chance to hang out with Todd and Kimberly this week to do their engagement session.  And the cloudy day was exactly what we needed to get these photos.  I had a very hard time choosing my faves to blog but I did it and here they are.  Enjoy!

I’ll leave this description to Meg…

August 17, 2008

So Meg said to me during Eva and Kyle’s reception “I know what we should write about this wedding on our blog”

This is the wedding where I want to put the camera’s down and just enjoy the party!

And while I agree with Meg that is also why it is such a great pleasure to be in charge of photographing such an awesome day!  Kyle and Eva’s wedding day came together just as it should have and Eva was left saying “It really was just meant to be!”.

Congratulations you two and look forward to some more amazing photos soon.

You know how sometimes it just works out?

August 11, 2008

Saturday was an amazing wedding ceremony story. Friday night and into early Saturday morning it rained (and it rained a lot). We got to afternoon and Ryan & Kelly seemed okay with their wedding being inside even though they planned on it being outside. That’s when a friend came up with a plan. Take a few seats outside with the arbor and some cafe umbrellas for the guests and then just go for it. And that is what they did and it payed off. The rain pretty much held off for the whole ceremony and as if it had waited patiently for the ceremony to be over the clouds dumped rain like I haven’t seen in some time around here. It was almost like a tropical afternoon shower. It worked out great to get some awesome photos and Kelly and Ryan enjoyed their outdoor ceremony. It was great! Congrats and look forward to some more fun photos!

You remember Trether, don’t you?

Heather and Trevor had a great wedding day out at Tail Skid Meadows on Friday and yes I have done quite a few weddings out there this summer. As you saw above. There was a fun Starbucks connection with this wedding. Heather and Trevor met there, I worked with both of them at points in my Starbucks journey and the officiant is now a good friend of Meg and I as well as a Starbucks ASM. Oh and Trevors dad was a regular when I was a barista as well:). Let’s see how many more blog rabbit trails I can go on. All the beautiful flowers from the day were done by none other than Kim Zylstra of the Backyard Gardner. With all the details we are in charge of capturing we don’t usually have much time to get caught up in the moments but it was great to see these two awesome people get married!! Congratulations to you two and enjoy the photos below!

LR2 how I love thee!

August 5, 2008

Technical post watch out!  I recently downloaded the newest version of Photoshop Lightroom 2 and it’s awesome!  Meg and I saw some Tall Ships in Bellingham Bay on our way out of town on Friday and I had a chance to try some of the new features from Lightroom 2 on them.  Check it out below.  Uh oh are these trade secrets:)?  Enjoy!

This first image is straight out of the camera and I like it that way, so what did I do?

tsblog1.jpg

In Lightroom changes to photos were really global prior to version 2.  But now we can do localized changes to the images.  For example, from the photo above to the photo below, I made only the mast of the boat brighter and then I used a graduated filter (in lightroom) to darken the darkes in the sky.  How cool is that.  So what does this mean?  Less time jumping back and forth from Photoshop to Lightroom, hooray!!

tsblog2.jpg

It was such a beautiful early evening on Bellingham Bay!
